5-Amino-1MQ (5-Amino-1-Methylquinolinium) is a small-molecule research compound being studied for its ability to inhibit an enzyme called nicotinamide N-methyltransferase, or NNMT.
NNMT plays a role in cellular metabolism, nicotinamide processing, methylation, and energy regulation. Because elevated NNMT activity has been associated with metabolic dysfunction in preclinical research, scientists have become increasingly interested in compounds that can selectively inhibit this enzyme.
Unlike GLP-1-based compounds, 5-Amino-1MQ is not a GLP-1 agonist and does not work primarily by suppressing appetite. Its research focuses more directly on cellular metabolism and how the body stores and utilizes energy.
